  • Hello and welcome to LetThemTalk. Today we're going look at the difference between

  • travel, trip, journey and voyage. Words that are often confused.

  • Travel, is usually a verb

  • for example when I travel I always take a camera

  • Sometimes we can use travel as a compound noun

  • for example, business travel or air travel.

  • We can also use travel as a plural noun

  • for example, he wrote a book about his travels across Africa.

  • However, we don't use travel as a singular noun, do not say "last weekend I had a good travel".

  • The word journey means going from one place to another.

  • We can use journey to talk about long distance...Our journey to Australia took 20 hours.

  • or for a short distance.... this afternoon I'm going to make a journey across Paris on my kick scooter.

  • We use trip to talk about more than one journey and the time you spend in a place.

  • So for example, we spent one month in London, it was a great trip.

  • We ask "how was your business trip?",

  • because we are interested in what happened at the important meeting and not in the journey.

  • A voyage is a journey we make by boat or in space. The Titanic sank on its maiden voyage.

  • That's it....more English language videos coming soon.
