When Taylor died unexpectedly, Fillmore became the 13th American president.

He was, AH, hard worker who loved learning so much that he married his teacher.

But he led the country at a difficult time.

Voters were sharply divided over slavery.

Filmore tried to please everybody by passing a compromise bill that both supported and limited slavery.

The bill did not prevent the country's civil war, and it cost.

Fillmore is political even today, if you remember him.
