  • based on what you've had to say.

  • If this opinion that you just disseminated to a national television audience was taking place right now and this was 1991 I would take no issue with it because it's a black man.

  • I, too, wanted Michael Jordan to be more out spoken, to speak against some of the injustices, to be a bit more political, certainly to endorse Harvey again against Jesse Helms, who are, by and large based on his record based on his opposition to civil rights legislation and beyond.

  • A lot of people in the African American community considered him a flat out bigot.

  • So it would have been nice to hear Michael Jordan speaking.

  • If this were 1991 I would get your point.

  • Way I have a problem with your position is the fact that we are now in 2000 and 20.

  • This is nearly 30 years.

  • Is it?

  • This is 30 years later, and to not reflect on who MJ is, what he has become and how beneficial it has been for all of us.

  • To me, I don't think it's it's doing him justice.

  • I'm not saying that's your intent, but I certainly don't feel like it's doing him justice.

  • M.

  • J Yes, he was a superstar player.

  • He was 27 years old, He wasn't a champion, and he certainly wasn't comfortable speaking in the media.

  • And he wasn't comfortable speaking about anything but basketball.

  • That was him.

  • In his early years, that was him when he was a superstar, that was him.

  • Whereas he continued to be a superstar.

  • That was him when he was playing with championships.

  • It was him, ultimately, when he retired and it's him to this very day.

  • But what did he do?

  • What he did?

  • Waas.

  • He gained, you know, exorbitant wealth.

  • He became the second minority owner in the N B A.

  • He was the one that played a significant role in facilitating Bob Johnson.

  • Ultimately getting ownership often envy a franchise off the Charlotte Bobcats, and he had MJ coming as a minority owner before selling the team to to Michael Jordan.

  • Michael Jordan also opened the floodgates for an abundance of African Americans to speak out in the world of business.

  • Obviously you've seen the opportunities that have been.

  • According to them, it was Michael Jordan.

  • Magic Johnson set the stage in terms of ingratiating himself in terms of Matt having mass appeal that ultimately left people inclined to invite the Michael Jordans of the world and others into their living rooms.

  • That goes a long way because obviously that facilitates greater business.

  • It facilitates a different culture.

  • Michael Jordan hired black people, employed black people.

  • We can't forget all of that stuff.

  • We're talking about entrepreneurial ship.

  • We're talking about ownership.

  • This guy has done a lot.

  • So when we talk about what he wasn't willing to speak up.

  • Let's talk about how he was able to empower individuals to be able to speak, how he helped elevate and transcend a culture into the point that it is today.

  • It ain't just about social media as to why these guys are able to speak out.

  • It's also because guess what, they've been empowered.

  • Michael Jordan may not have taken the risk that you wanted to.

  • I don't see LeBron and others having taken risk if you've got $9 million salaries or not, not nine figure nine figure contracts and what have you?

  • The risk that you're taking to yourself is obviously diluted and dissipated significantly compared to the sacrifices somebody like Alley made somebody like Curt Flood made and people like that.

  • Michael Jordan was in a position to do that, either.

  • He was making money off a Nike, but his average salary over the 1st 11 years of his career was $4 million $4 million.

  • We keep forgetting stuff like that.

  • The times were different and were so quick to give guys in this generation credit, and I'm not saying they don't deserve it.

  • I just think it's important to understand that when we talk about risk, what actual risk are you taking?

  • Bad PR?

  • Is your quality of life going to be compromised?

  • Is there anything that anybody can do at this particular juncture?

  • Is there anything that anybody has been able to do in the last decade that would have compromised LeBron James quality of life?

  • That answer is no, because he had the money in the bank when he started speaking.

  • Let's make sure we remember stuff like that when we're talking about the Michael Jordans of the world or anybody before him.

  • So you agree with me that you do wish that he had taken some type of stance on something back then Stephen A.

  • Is that what you're saying?

  • The difference?

  • I understand you're saying when I understand it, you're saying it's 2020 now and that you're saying that guys have a lot more money, so it's easier for them to make stances on things and have the same money that they have now.

  • That's not all I'm saying.

  • In 1991 Michael Jordan has been you.

  • I'm answer your question.

  • Okay, I'm answer your question.

  • In 1991 Michael Jordan was the same guy in terms of being out spoken, that he has been his entire life.

  • The Onley hiccup that I believe Michael Jordan made was not when he didn't endorse Harvey get was when he turned around and endorsed Bill Bradley.

  • Because then you showed a willingness to be a little bit political.

  • He did speak out against Donald Sterling, which wasn't hard to do, and we understand that everybody was easy.

  • We got against Donald Sterling, but he did it.

  • But to me, the only hiccup in terms of Michael Jordan's consistency is when he spoke out to endorse Bill Bradley because of you endorsed Bill Bradley.

  • You couldn't endorsed our begin.

  • That's the only thing you could say Stephen A.

  • I you know, you're sitting up here on national TV acting like I am not grateful for the doors that Michael Jordan has been able to open.

  • That was the first comment I said.

  • I said that I understand what Michael Jordan has brought to the table, but to act like the way each individual opens doors is the same is we would be remiss to do so, my man, you may mention a Magic Johnson.

  • Magic Johnson went into low income poverty neighborhood and open up Starbucks and gave jobs back to the community like And this is what I'm talking about.

  • You're sitting here saying like things, and I'm saying Okay, excuse me.

  • How was my Jack Johnson able to do that?

  • Because he has his career.

  • But that's I'm saying, like So that's what I'm asking you.

  • What's Michael Jordan is example of that?

  • Can you answer me that maybe with Michael Jordan's example that I think about ownership?

  • I'm thinking about black?

  • I think that may be charitable and philanthropic career.

  • I just said that I understand.

  • But what I'm saying to you is, those things seem like to be being behind closed doors a little bit.

  • I don't know what all those things are like.

  • I'm not saying he hasn't done that.

  • I I don't know what Michael Jordan is done behind closed doors.

  • Maybe he's giving back a lot.

  • Yes, and many do.

  • I've read about this and I'm trying to get a lot of stuff.

  • Diligence about this.

  • I wasn't able to find a lot.

based on what you've had to say.
