  • Americans openly say what they want. Japanese don't do that. Americans are just they way they are. It's better.

  • Which one would you pick? - probably Hawaii

  • Australia has a lot of dangerous animals. - I want to see them close up.

  • Hey guys and girls on Ask Japanese it's Cathy Cat. ENVY! This time we're gonna

  • go ask Japanese people on the streets of Tokyo which country they are envious of

  • Which country they admire and which certain traits a country has that they envy

  • and wish they had here in Japan. If you care bout more stuff from Japan don't forget to hit the subscribe button

  • and let's go start the video and Ask Japanese.

  • I am envious of European places like France, Paris. The reason for that...

  • The foreigners there are so much cooler than Japanese. The cityscape...

  • is different and more charming than here in Japan. I want to go.

  • I know this is common but I like America. - Tell me why.

  • I have only been to Hawaii. It feels less crowded than Japan.

  • If I could go anywhere, I would go to America.

  • I would like to live in America. - You're plannin on living there? - Yes.

  • I am thinking of going there with a Working Holiday Visa but...

  • America isn't part of it so Canada instead. - The USA isn't part of Working Holiday. - That's why I go to Canada

  • I want to stay there for a while and then maybe go to America. - Why?

  • I was an exchange student there before.

  • Americans openly say what they want. Japanese don't do that.

  • Americans are just they way they are. It's better for living there.

  • People aren't a pain that way. And

  • when I went for food a guy asked "can I sit here..."

  • "sure you can" and we became friends. Inside restaurants there are billiard tables.

  • And games. And they asked me to play with them.

  • In Japan they would only invite me out of obligation. But in the USA

  • they really welcomed me in. I thought that was really great.

  • I want to live in Finland or Spain.

  • Those countries are really different, so why?

  • They say the happiest people live in Finland.

  • I heard that saying. I wanna live there.

  • And Spain has great architecture

  • and tasty foods. I wanna go there. - What part about Finland

  • makes them so happy? - What? I just heard they are happy

  • If you had one handsome boy on each side, one from Finland one from Spain...

  • if they both wanna go out with you what do you do?

  • I would marry the Finnish boy and visit Spain during the holidays.

  • Ah! - I like islands with beaches like Hawaii.

  • I wish I could go there. - Do you have the sea close?

  • Not close but there is one. - Why Hawaii then? - I want to swim in beautiful waters

  • I want to swim next to a sea turtle. - Is the sea near you ugly?

  • It's not that pretty. - And then the men in Hawaii...

  • what if you get a proposal. But next to you is...

  • a boy from Okinawa.

  • People often say Hawaii and Okinawa are similar. Who would you pick?

  • I think Hawaii. - You picked a more challenging lifestyle

  • I did. I can't speak English. Oh my I guess I'll make it happen.

  • Work hard on your English! - Thank you Cathy

  • I am interested in European countries.

  • Not America? - No Europe.

  • People often put Europe into the same pot...

  • many Japanese do that. I am wondering why...

  • The atmosphere? - Many have the image that Europe has pretty countries.

  • That might be it. America is different, having been there.

  • The cities were dirty, there was lots of rubbish...

  • But many Japanese love going to Europe.

  • And others will often recommend me to visit Europe.

  • I like Australia. I love animals.

  • I often take days off to go to the zoo

  • But aren't there many dangerous animals in Australia?

  • I want to see them close up. All. - Have you been? - Never

  • And in the future? - I wanna go. -If you could go

  • what would you do with animals first. - I wanna see the Quokka

  • The small kangaroo. - They smile so much.

  • There is a type of kangaroo that looks like it's smiling. We don't have them here.

  • I like hot places. I envy Hawaii. The ocean is so close...

  • And I could do all activities I want.

  • No I think Japan is best. We are safe. Our food

  • is tasty. People are nice. - Is there a country you wanna

  • visit or envy? - Something from Europe. I wanna visit.

  • France? - France too yeah. - Germany? - Yeah Germany. - And Germany?

  • Germany. - And Germany. - And then some more Germany. - Which country...

  • do you want to visit the most or have been to? - Maldives. - America

  • It's the middle of the world. - What you you like there?

  • People dress great. - And you wanna hang out with Taylor Swift. - True.

  • Those were all our questions. Thank you.

  • I've read you down 5 things that I envy and many other foreigners

  • envy in Japan. One of them is civil courage. We call it "Zivilcourage" in German.

  • It's the moral code on which you act out here on the streets of Tokyo.

  • For example look at the bridge where we are standing there is no graffiti no scratches

  • no artwork. People will generally not damage things. The only thing that will damage

  • items here is generally time and maybe

  • natural disasters or similar. Generally people don't damage property of other people

  • don't damage common property and that's a reason why we can have these nice street

  • views here in Tokyo. Number 2 we envy a lot are the trains

  • The trains here are on time, clean and reliable.

  • If you come to Tokyou you will be surprised by the amout of different types of trains

  • but you'll also be surprised that they're actually on time... I mean...

  • where do you get that in the world. Big point for being envious of

  • I wish we had that. Number 3 people look after each other and it might

  • be smaller or bigger gestures. When you go out drinking with Japanese friends

  • people will be sure a glass for you, which means if their glass is empty you should

  • look out for them and pour them a glass too.

  • Number 4 people will not bother strangers. When you walk

  • around no matter how you're dressed or what you are doing, people will not say mean things about you

  • people are left alone to their lifes. You can wear what ever you want

  • people will not say "omg what are you wearing" out loud. They might say it to themselves

  • but they will not voice it. Everyone lives their life and they let you live yours and that I really appreciate.

  • Number 5 is the crime rate. There is a lot less crime here some times

  • you can leave certain items to reserve a seat and they will still be there when you get back

  • And number 5 ot 5 things is definitely the crime rate

  • There's a lot less crime here, sometimes you can even leave certain items to reserve a seat and they will still

  • be there when you get back, Don't quote me on that but generally lots of places here are lots

  • safer than the average in other countries. Less theft and less violent crime

  • On that note please be careful when you come to Tokyo anyways cause there are some corners that

  • you shouldn't be alone, but generally Tokyo is a safe city and that is why we can

  • That's why we can have nice things. On certain corners people

  • will leave items in front of the stores before they open, they get delivered earlier... and they're still

  • there when the shop opens. No one steals it. So that are a couple of things I am very

  • envious about and I wish we had that in other countries too. Let us know what else

  • you love about Japan and wish we had in your country in the comment below. If you enjoyed
