字幕列表 影片播放 列印英文字幕 I'm in search for the most British words or phrases ever and I need your help. I'm putting together a guide to British English for you guys and I want to feature the most British sounding vocabulary there is. For example take the word 'blimey'. Is there a more British word than blimey? It's an expression we use to show surprise, excitement maybe you are a bit scared. For example you go outside, you open the door and you go 'blimey it's cold!' You are showing surprise that it is cold. Blimey. Ok or maybe the word muppet. Muppet just means idiot, it's kind of a slightly silly way to call someone an idiot. Maybe you forgot your keys and you lock yourself out of your house 'I'm such a muppet.' Like I'm such an idiot. But we have loads of phrases to talk about idiot. We've got muppet, plonker, wally, pillock we've got a lot. Ok, how about the word one to refer to yourself in the third person. It's very posh you know, it's very polite. Just like the Queen. 'One is displeased at the moment with the weather. It is rather gloomy.' So instead of saying I am displeased you are saying one, you are talking about yourself in the third person. Hmmm very posh. Ok, or going the other way, very informal word pissed. To mean drunk. 'Last night I got really pissed.' It means last night I got really drunk. Ok, that's pretty British but what about this word 'knackered'. It means very tired. I played football last night and I was knackered meaning I was very very tired. Blimey, we've got a lot of great words here. Ok, how about this word 'local' or it's more like a concept to have a local. It means like the pub that's closest to you or the pub that you visit most that is close to you. So my local is just down the road, it's about five minutes away and yeah you can say I'm going to the pub or you can say 'I'm going to my local.' It used to be that almost everyone had a local. So you'd say 'what's your local?' 'It's the Bell and Hare.' or 'it's the Three Kings' or whatever it might be. So yeah that idea that you go to a pub frequently that's close to you. Alright, ok that' pretty British but what about this word? A quid. It means, one pound. It's an informal slang word for one British pound. 'How much is a coffee?' 'It's two quid.' 'Oh two pounds, not bad.' Ok what about this word. If you watch the reality TV programme Love Island then you will have heard the word 'mug' every episode. It's an informal rude way to say someone is an idiot. In fact we are just calling people idiots all the time here. So if you see someone doing something stupid you might say 'he's such a mug.' Like he's such an idiot. It's a bit rude but it's a word I hear so often and so so British. Alright what about this one. Another word for a party is a knees up. Yeah, your knees going up, I guess because you are dancing, is a party. 'We had a knees up last night at my local.' We had a party last night at my nearest pub. My God, how British are these phrases? Blimey! Alright guys so what I want you guys to do is in the comments below I want you to vote for your most British word or phrase. Maybe it's the one that you like the most or the it's the one that you just think wow that is the most British word ever. No one else says that word. Put that in the comments below. I'm going to compile all these words and put them into my guide to British English for you guys. I'm working on it right now, it's going to be great. I can't wait for you guys to give me your input.
