字幕列表 影片播放 列印英文字幕 hey everyone Jennifer from Tarle Speech with your pronunciation question today's question is about a confusing word pair and that word pair is guarantee which basically means a promise and this is a synonym which means it's essentially the same meaning as the word warranty and warranty is a little bit more of a stronger word and we use it more as a legal term in the u.s. so just a little more background guarantee is from French and warranty is from English so hopefully that might help you just kind of understand why these words are pronounced so differently so let's go ahead and jump in and look at these sounds so super long words lots of letters that automatically confuses people I totally get it so let's break these down into three syllables good news the last two syllables of each of these words is exactly the same so we're gonna start with the middle syllable we're going to have the schwa here that means that this sound this vowel sound it's going to be very short very quick and very relaxed uh we're going to add to that the n sound nnn so quickly move from the uh to the n by touching the back of the top front teeth and the air is going to move through your nose un un un I'm super fast and then we're going to end with T I wrote it with two E's there so you know that'll be long because when we see two vowels together we typically make them the long vowel length so we're gonna say T by touching the tip of the tongue to the back of the top front teeth let that air just pop out of your mouth and then move to that e by smiling so let's put those together un tee un tee un tee now let's look at those beginning syllables which is where I hear the confusion so for word number one gair and for word number two wore so let's start with the gair I think that all of these letters really confuse people and I hear even some people trying to say a W sound which is why these words get so confusing for your listener so we're going to start with the G sound to make a G sound the tip of your tongue is going to be low in your mouth and the back of your tongue is going to be pulled way high up to the roof of your mouth sometimes it's touching your voice box is gonna be on and moving g g g next you're gonna add the vowel air air to do this you're going to start with a very wide open circle mouth that's going to get your tongue low in your mouth the tip of your tongue low in your mouth and the back of your tongue is going to be pulled up and then you're going to move to that er sound as you know since you watch my videos you can either have tip of the tongue down or curled back just don't touch your teeth and then your lips will be in a tense square let's put that all together gair gair gair and then for a warranty you're going to start with a W sound w and then we're gonna move to that or so to do that your lips are gonna be puckered for the W still gonna be puckered for that or beginning and then we're going to move to that er sound to end that and for the ER we just talked about that tongue tip down or back don't touch your teeth okay so we would say wore wore wore and as you can see my lips move from very puckered to pulled back so make sure you do that let's put these both together Geir un T guarantee guarantee guarantee wore un T warranty warranty warranty yes you probably did hear a subtle difference we're going to stress syllable number three here guarantee and we're gonna stress syllable number one here warranty guarantee warranty guarantee warranty let me give you a sentence the store's guarantee was backed by a money-back warranty the store's guarantee was backed by a money-back warranty give it a try people will definitely notice the difference if you found this helpful please share us with your friends get the word out there don't forget to subscribe and give us a like and if you're looking for more practice check out Google Play and iTunes for our practice books Tarle Speech for a classes and I hope to see you again soon thanks so much
