We only accept an honest day of practicing, 40 hours a day. - That's right. - Oh, also... Grey sweatpants. Look at that, we're wearing the same thing! Oh, look at that. - It says what you should be doing right now. - Yeah, that's right. Anyway, it's cool sweatpants, check it out on our website. Gotta throw a butt. Thanks, shoutout to our apparel team, everyone's worked so hard to get this out, this is one of our most ambitious projects, especially with products, so... Thanks for the support, check it out. Alright! We literally sat here for 20 minutes being like, how do we even order this from no. 5 hardest to no. 1 hardest. - They're all in their own right, like, difficult. - Yeah. - And there's other pieces too, - Yeah. - even to pick these five. - Yeah. - So, just to be clear, this is just the five we chose. - Yeah. There's a lot more difficult pieces out there as well. I will say though, because a lot of difficult pieces are like, not that famous... - That's true. - But in the violin world, these are the five pieces that are - famous for being very hard as well. - Yes, exactly. Alright, so on number 5, we have the Bach Chaconne. Now, it might not seem... ...to be technically as difficult as the other four that's coming up, which are actually insanely difficult, technically. But Bach Chaconne is on this list, because it is... - ...like, one of the Holy Grail pieces. - Mm-hmm. It's very long, it's Bach, which means... ...musically, there's a lot of um, expectation, to your interpretation. You can't just... ...show off with a bunch of left hand pizz, like there's a... ...certain sincerity that has to come across in the music. And not just that, but you're basically sustaining... ...this epic flow, this music, for like 15 minutes, and... It's just hard to not start making all your chords like, crunchy, - after 15 minutes. - And it...and it's also hard to... - make it sound different, - Yeah. - it's gonna sound the same same. - Yeah. Without going into too much detail, I'll just...wanna demonstrate a few passages. - Dude, it sounds like you're like...you're like... - I can never do that bit...! Alright, the thing with the Bach is like... there's so many awkward string crossings, it just sucks. And maybe I just didn't practice, but... Oh my god. Listen to Hilary play that bit. That bit! Ho—do you know how hard that is? It sounds so simple, - it's because Hilary is making it sound easy, by the way. - It's like she's playing on a piano, like every note's just... - Yeah. - But on a string, we got all these like... The whole piece is just like that, there's all these uncomfortable chords, but musically you can't show it. - You can't show it. - It just...should sound like music. Yeah, you can't let your technical failures affect the music. - Yeah. - I think that's what's challenging about Bach. What's this? That—that bar, 244. Every note has to be even. Oh my god. Alright, number 4! - Ehh... - Erlkönig! Yeah, Erlkönig! - Ohh...again? - In case... - The famous recording on YouTube is Hilary. - Yeah. We're not just picking all Hilary for any reason. It's just a coincidence! It's just a coincidence, guys. - How do you even phrase that? - Okay. Did you hear the phrase with the... - ...evenness, and that psycho left hand pizz. - Left hand pizz. Oh I wanna try it, I really wanna try it. - I've never actually read this music. - Yeah. To be fair, we're sight-reading, - we have not even dared to learn these pieces. - Yeah, yeah, exactly! How do you do that? Oh! Nah, you messed it up, 'cause you need to left hand pizz. Probably in second position. Ahh! Oh, wow. What was that bit? What?! Like that? Yeah! - Dude, my hands are hurting. - It sounds so crunchy. 'Cause there's so many chords! - We'll do it together, I think it'll be easier. - Alright. Okay. Dude... I think I just pulled a tendon. What is this?! Dude, there's two lines! - You know things are getting serious when violin - Yeah, two lines. becomes two lines in the music. Can we hear that? I can't even read the music anymore. I don't even know where we're at, we're just... Oh, here. Dude, the dynamics... Holy s***... How does she make it sound melodically singing, when you're rhythmically playing so many strings? This just keeps going! Alright, guys! A violin has a bridge, we're not meant to be playing... ...three strings at the same time, and make it sound so beautifully... ...elegant. - Dude. - I'm terrified. How is this only number 4 on the list? I think we messed it up. Dude! What... Dude, look at this bar. - Oh, yeah... - Alright, you do top line, I do bottom line. What the hell...! - We can't even play it with two violins. - Oh, god. Number 3 on the list! Ysaÿe 6! It ain't so "Ysaÿe"! (both) Ahhh!!!! You learned this, right? Why don't you just perform it? Nah, nah. I tried to learn it for like a week, and after a week of defeat, - Yeah. - I was like, "You know what? Think I'll go back to the... Play the easier ones first." Okay. 4 mil subs, Brett plays Ysaÿe 6. Let's do it guys! Ysaÿe 6! Ysaÿe 6 for 4 mil subs! - Alright, let's listen to it. - Yeah, let's listen to it first. The hell? Oh, man. Dude, just look at this music. Why is there...so much black? Well it means we're losing our vision. - We're seeing double notes by accident. - Ohh... - Okay look, I can play the first few bars. - It's all double stops! Yeah...! This is all I got for like the first week, I was like, "Yeah! So good, I can do this!" Doable. Oh s***, I forgot. S***. What? Oh. - Ohh. - Yeah, I can see why I gave up. And this is the opening! - Yeah... - This is like... Bam! Right in your face! I remember I played Ysaÿe 3, and one thing I noticed with Ysaÿe is there's always these places where it's like... ...double stops, but it needs to sound so flowy. Yeah...! Yeah... Oh, no, no, I remember this part, this... This is a... - Yeah. - And then... But your hands can't even catch up. - Like it's meant to sound like... - Yeah... Sounds... Except it's so hard! - Oh, yeah. - Oh nice! Dude, you can play! - Can't do it now. - 6 mil! - 6 mil subs! - Nah, nah, nah, I can't do it now! - You can play! You can play! - Nah, nah, nah, nah, I'm out. Next one! Because if you play this, - it's the last summer you gonna have. - Yeah... It's gonna end you. Yeah. Dude, your pinky like choked. It's like, "Is it my turn?" Dude, whenever you need to pizz and play melody at the same time, - it's like... - It's like, you need to— - You're like two gears moving. - Yeah. - Dude, he's closing his eyes. - Yeah. Dude, he's like... "Just a walk in a park." Huh?! Did you hear that high pizz? So much respect for that. Words cannot even describe... Yeah, that's it. This is literally how we feel. How much... ...hours and talent and just honest work there is in that? That's like Olympic level. This is like Olympic level stuff, yeah. If this video gets 60k likes, Brett will perform it. No...! Bro...! You'll never see me show up in a video again. "What's Brett doing?" "He's stressing, he's practicing!' - Dude I think I just scratched my violin. - Dude you just scratched your violin. What the f*** is that? You can't! That's 7th position A string! Ohh!!! Dude, who the hell does that? That is so uncomfortable. Who... How...why did humans decide that this was a good idea anyway? I don't know, I just... I'm just questioning why I chose violin as a career. Bro, that's... Can we just... What the f***? All Vengerov! When were you that good– I mean, you're the— I knew you're good, but... - Holy moly! Yeah! - I didn't know he was THAT good! Dude, that was like a supersonic scale. Alright, we should go to the last one. I don't...I don't think we're surviving Alright, last one. The hardest piece in all violin history. God save the King! By Paganini. The Devil himself. Alright, so the score starts with an introduction. Oh, I can at least play the introduction! Dude, you just saved the King! - Ayy! - My turn! Oh is that pizz? - Oh...yeah. - Oh that is pizz! But you gotta sustain it, - 'cause it's a crochet. - Ohh...!!! Ohh!!! I'm drooling. Wait you just gotta play it in tempo, are you ready? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah! I love when we're reading our tone just goes... There's no tone. I can't read this, this isn't even music! This is another language! Let's listen. You can see all the orchestral violinists just there... (both) "Yeah." "Could've been me if I practiced 40 hours a day." "Dammit." - "Where was Ling Ling when I needed it?" - Yeah. Dude, feels like a rock concert as well, like... Yeah! Paganini was a rock star! Yeah, that sacrilegious boy was right, right? - Yeah...yeah. - The first rock star. - Dude, look at his left hand! - Look at his pinky, he's like... There's so much efficiency there, it's insane! - Okay okay okay... - Dude, that sounds like... - Yeah...I know how to do that one. - That was...oh, Paganini! - You were using some tricks, ay? - Yeah. Nel Cor Più Non Mi Sento! How? Just... So you guys understand, A four pizzing a three. On the...high on the E string, you can't make a sound! It's too high. Oh! Alright. Brett can, so if you leave a like on this video - he will perform it at 6 mil subs! - Nooooooooo!!!!!!! Nah I can't do it. It was edited. Alright guys, thanks for watching. May Ling Ling save... the violin soul within us all. And check out our new merch! - Yes! - 'Cause I'm honestly... - I'm really, really excited about this. - You guys see it? It's really dangerous.
