DJ Jazzy Jeff credits his wife Lynette 2
for saving his life. 3
One of the times I dozed off and I woke up 4
and my wife was staring at me and I was like, 5
well, what's wrong? 6
Why are you looking at me like that? 7
And she said, I know how you breathe. 8
I know how you sleep, and this is not it. 9
And took my temperature and was like, nope, we're out. 10
We're out. 11
The legendary artist believes 12
he came down with COVID-19 and early March. 13
Jazzy Jeff, whose real name is Jeff Townes, 14
was on a gig in Idaho then. 15
By the time he got back home to Delaware, 16
he noticed something was off. 17
My temperature started going up, 18
but it started to get to a point that I would doze off 19
and think that I'd slept the entire night 20
and I would wake up 21
and wonder why the movie I was watching 22
when I'm dozed off was still on, 23
only to realize I've only slept for 12 minutes. 24
Wow. 25
Just during that doctor's visit Lynette took him to, 26
they didn't test him for COVID-19 but for the flu. 27
That's when they found pneumonia in both of his lungs 28
and put him on strong antibiotics. 29
They told him if it got any worse, 30
he'd need to go to the ER. 31
So now my brain is playing 32
all kinds of weird tricks on me. 33
I had pretty much four or five really, really bad days 34
before I think the antibiotics kicked in 35
and I started to eat and started to taste my food, 36
'cause I said the taste and smell. 37
It was about that time Jeff realized 38
he may have contracted the virus. 39
I am all jacked up right now just because of all of this. 40
I've been sick before. 41
That was the first time that I had two moments of me 42
being sick that I said to myself, 43
wow, this is how I'm going out. 44
I really thought I might not make it through this 45
and thank God every time my brain kind of went there, 46
my wife just so happened to walk in the room 47
and she caught me and, no, no, no, we're not doing that. 48
We're not doing that. 49
And she kind of pulled me out. 50
Word on the street you was down for a couple of days. 51
I was out of breath every time 52
I had to go to the bathroom. 53
Wow. 54
Yeah, that was scary, 'cause Lynette doesn't panic 55
and she called me with the panic vibe. 56
So I just immediately called D-Nice to see 57
if he would be available to... 58
(laughs) 59
[Stephanie[ Jeff says Lynette was sick, 60
but her symptoms were far milder. 61
She'd only lost her sense of taste 62
and had a mild cough for two days. 63
He says they plan on getting tested. 64
It was funny because me being sick has made me 65
take this very serious. 66
A reason why I started DJing every Saturday online 67
