  • We made it to Asakusa. We're gonna go check out the temple today.

  • It's a little bit drizzling... well, it was drizzling rain a little bit earlier. Hopefully it's not like that when we get out.

  • Yeah hold on, we're about to do the...

  • Oh shoot, oh shoot.

  • CANDY: Alright, we lost Cindy. CRYS: Uh oh.

  • Oh, there she is.

  • Ok, crisis averted.

  • Yeah, I had to get my card out to get out of the station.

  • We're gonna go check out the temple today...

  • We had other plans today but because it's raining, we had to kinda like switch plans

  • which isn't a bad thing because we always wanted to visit Asakusa, the temple here. It's a famous temple.

  • We grew up in Japan but we never went to it because we just always to to the one near our home.

  • CANDY: I'm pretty excited to see it! CRYS: Yeah, very excited.

  • Alright, well, we're gonna go catch up with our sister because she walks really fast.

  • CRYS: I know, everybody in Japan walks super fast. CANDY: Yeah, hahaha!

  • Kuma! (Crystal's corgi)

  • CANDY: Oh, Kuma-chan!

  • CRYS: Aaahhh! It's a corgi! All corgis! Why is it all corgis?

  • Sorry, I got side tracked. I have take a video of these corgis.

  • One guest, 3000 yen. And if you want, we can drop you off at the nearby temple.

  • CANDY: Ok, we'll think about it. Thank you! CRYS: We're going to walk first. Thank you.

  • CRYS: So, everybody speaks English here. CANDY: Yes, hahaha!

  • It's because it's such a hot tourist spot that

  • they have all these English speakers right when you get out of the station.

  • I wish we could have four on one.

  • CANDY: I know because I don't really want to do it separately

  • but I guess it's hard for one person to pull 4 people, hahaha!

  • I know, I know.

  • CANDY: So this is a police box. These are everywhere. There's one in our town.

  • so if you have any problems, you just go to that.

  • So here it is... this is the main entrance... we're at the main entrance of Asakusa right now.

  • It's a weekday and it's packed. But it is also spring break here in Japan, so...

  • Yeah, maybe it's a little more crowded because of that.

  • Yup. Oh, look at all those hands. Everyone's touching, hahaha

  • Lots of gift stores, souvenir shops... It's like Narita except not that many people.

  • There's sooooo many people here.

  • CINDY: It's very narrow too. But no cars.

  • ♪♪ MUSIC ♪♪

  • CRYS: Is this the place where they make fresh sensbei (rice crackers)?

  • CINDY: Yeah, there's a lot of them.

  • CRYS: Oh, there's a lot of them? Ok. Let me see this one.

  • ♪♪ MUSIC ♪♪

  • CANDY & CRYS: Hahaha!

  • This is rice cracker and this is pancake.

  • This is the best one.

  • CRYS: This is the best one? STORE CLERK: Yes!

  • STORE CLERK: ... Black sesame, original soy sauce and a little sweet and spicy.

  • CANDY: Do you want to try it? CRYS: Sure!

  • Ok, we got freshly made senbei, which is rice crackers. And he said that this was the best one.

  • The speak really good English again.

  • So it's like a really different shape and texture.

  • I like the shape. It's usually like a round shape.

  • CRYS: Mmm... CANDY: Can I try?

  • Mmmm! It's good! I like it.

  • The only thing is, I had to get 8 pieces. I don't really need this much

  • but we're just going to give it to our mom when we go home.

  • It's a good price. 8 pieces for 500 yen which is about 5 bucks.

  • CRYS: A little under 5 bucks. CANDY: A little under 5, so not bad.

  • CRYSTAL: So that's another famous thing to do in Asakusa.

  • CRYS: To get that ichigo... is that daifuku?

  • CANDY: This one has red beans in it, which is more traditional, and this one has custard in it.

  • Alright, so we see the cherry blossoms just a tad.

  • It's still not in full bloom, but at least we see it a little bit.

  • I know! I'm so happy we get to see a little bit.

  • I wasn't expecting to see this much of it, so I'm pretty happy about it.

  • Did you say "Thank you"?

  • CINDY: You put it in there. CRYS: Ohhhh, you put it in there, ok.

  • CRYS: Oh, so you light it up in here.

  • CRYS: So then, this is like to....

  • To heal... if you want to make a certain part better.

  • So then everybody waves the smoke to heal themselves.

  • CRYS: Heal my nose. Heal my nose.

  • Ok, so we just exited the Asakusa temple area...

  • CINDY: We're still there. CANDY: I think we're on the east exit.

  • I saw the sign... probably the east side, right?

  • Ok, so we're on the east side but all of a sudden, it just got really quiet.

  • Yeah, it's like there's nobody here, haha.

  • It's like a little shocking and a big contrast...

  • We were trying to squeeze through everything and now we're just like "Aaaaaahhhhh". Hahaha!

  • Ohhhhh!! What is this?

  • Oh but we can't sit inside, tho. I want to sit inside somewhere.

  • CANDY: There's like a really small place right there.

  • CRYS: You just want to go towards that way and see what else?

  • Want to go like this?

  • CRYS: Okay yeah let's do that.

  • CRYS: Let's do that.

  • So I got the grilled salmon set. Cindy and I are going to share it.

  • It comes with rice, miso soup, that's the grilled salmon, this is white radish here.

  • And then it always comes with tsukemono, which is different types of pickled items.

  • So this is pickled cabbage and cucumber. This is some kind of pickled seaweed.

  • I got the tonkatsu teishoku which is a set of... it's fried pork cutlet.

  • This is actually one of my most favorite comfort foods in Japan.

  • So it's a set that comes with the rice and the miso soup, cabbage and a little tsukemono.

  • Their miso soup is so good too. I haven't even tasted it but I know it tastes good, haha.

  • This looks super fresh. It's like they just made it, you know? It's like home cooked food.

  • ♪♪ MUSIC ♪♪

  • We just got the melon pan... which is like.. it means melon bread but it's actually...

  • It doesn't taste like melon but it's just shaped like a melon. And it's traditional sweet bread.

  • But this one here, right behind me, Kagetsudo, is like a really famous one in Asakusa.

  • It's like right by the temple and there's like a huge line right now to get one but it moves pretty fast.

  • CINDY: Yeah, it is really fast.

  • Yeah, super fast. So, don't let the line deter you from going.

  • CINDY: Yeah, a lot of people were like, "Yeah, let's forget it"

  • Yeah, but it moves super fast. But it's been around since the 1940s and it's supposed to be really, really good.

  • They're huge and we got a box of them.

  • There's actually five but they're really big pieces, so we're about to go try them out!

  • Oh wow, it's individually wrapped.

  • CRYS: No, it's hmmm.... I think they're warm? We'll see.

  • It's good, but it's still not dekitate (freshly made). It's not the hot melon pan I was hoping for.

  • Like I've had melon pan where it was JUST made...

  • CINDY: Aeon (Japanese mall), right? I remember that. We have it on video.

  • CANDY: Or even at that bread store we go to.

  • There was one in Akihabara. There was like a truck.

  • CANDY: A food truck.

  • And it was just... it came really right out of the oven. It was SO good!

  • CINDY: Was it hot? CRYS: So hot.

  • So, we're pretty much done with Sensoji temple. We just had the melon pan and

  • we're probably going to get a little gift for our niece and then head out

  • but uhhhhh what we thought about this temple... it's cool...

  • Yeah but I actually really prefer the one in Narita... a lot more.

  • Not just because of the amount of people but the one in Narita is just a lot bigger

  • and the grounds are a lot prettier. And on the way to the temple, the street, which you call Omotesando,

  • it's just... it's got a lot of traditional shops, uhhh... I just don't know how to explain it. It's just a lot more, um...

  • It's more calm and peaceful. You get to enjoy the scenery more.

  • It was cool to check out. I'm glad I came, but we both prefer the Narita temple

  • so if you get a chance to visit both or if you want to pick one, we suggest Narita Temple.

  • I suggest Narita. Plus, if you're flying in from Narita airport, it's much closer anyways.

  • Yeah.

  • Or if you're heading back to Narita, I say definitely stop by that one

  • because it's definitely got a way different vibe than this one.
