This is the E g touch travel padlock.

As a so called smart lock, it's designed to be opened with the owner smartphone or with the included NFC tag.

In addition, this lock can be opened by the TSA using their number seven master cake.

Now we're going to put aside, for the moment the question of who would want to spend $30 on a baggage lock, especially since there's a fair chance that the TSA will just cut it off anyway.

Instead, we're going to focus on the long and potent list of design flaws with this product.

The 1st 3 revolve around this core on the side.

My first problem with it is that the outer portion of it is made out of plastic.

That means that the court can almost certainly be forced with something like a screwdriver.

The next problem with it is that it provides almost no protection from picking.

We can see this is locked right now.

However, if I were to take this wave rake without using attention Tool and stick it in and wiggle it around for a bit.

Just that fast.

We opened it up.

There's really no skill involved.

My final issue with this court is that the master key can be removed when it's in the unlocked position.

Let's say the TSA comes along with their number seven master key to inspect your baggage.

They turn this to the unlocked position and remove the key they can then take this off of your baggage and put it back on your baggage.

However, unless the TSA takes their key and affirmatively re locks your luggage, this lock can never again be locked by the owner.

I think that reason alone is probably enough to give this locket pass, but it turns out we are just getting started.

Let's turn to the overall design here, and one of the first things I noticed was that there is a lot of play in that locking bar.

So unless you have baggage with really beefy zippers on it, there's a fair chance that you would be able to slip those zippers through that generous gap.

Then we have the battery cover on the bottom, which I think is inadequately secured.

Given the rough treatment that baggage can receive, it's possible that this can open and the batteries would fall out just that quickly.

The owner can no longer operate there.

Lock The only way they can open it up is to power the lock using this USB port on the side.

We then have these yellow plastic panels on either side, which can be removed either by prying or possibly even through rough treatment.

Let's take one of those off now.

I've already done this once, so the glue is broken, so it's a little bit easier than the first time I did it, but not a whole lot.

Once we get this off, you can see all of the innards to this lock.

And of course, you can press aside the locking mechanism and open this up.

But when I saw what was inside, I realized there was actually a few different ways that we could bypass this from the outside.

So let's close this up and I will show you one of them.

What I can do is take this strip of metal, slide it right under the TSA core here and press on the locking bar and just that easily we opened it up so locked, unlocked, locked, unlocked.

So I think you get the idea that even if you were inclined to spend $30 on a luggage lock, this is probably one that you should avoid.
