It was shot in 1965 when I was a young filmmaker in South Turkey Creek, North Carolina, at the home of this old man famous folklorist Basket, Lamar Lunsford's. Now think about 1965. It's, Ah, £49 camera that I'm carrying and an audio recorder that's also £26 called the Niagara that you put your people and you let the MIC record. And then I supposedly work on a tripod. But I hated a tripod. So this dance scene is classic. It's old timey music. Some people call the mountain music. It's a bit of country to it. It's certainly bluegrass with a dance group that danced in Baskins home. I rolled up the rug, put on a few lights, and it began when I saw was amazing. The dancers, the music, the light, everything was just right. So I begin to dance with the dancers on. That's what you're about to see. Stay with until the end. Because I'll tell you what happened in this movie after you watched it, Ugo, wait, wait e The scene you just saw is a classic. It ran on television in early 1966. My movie was called Music Makers of the Blue Ridge, My first documentary for television. I'm 23 years old, I think N E t. The National Educational Television, which was the forerunner of the PBS, gave me $7000 to make a one hour movie. It got the cover of TV Guide, and it was unbelievably popular on television. Why? Because Americans had never seen the music before. I had never seen the dancing before on television. Why did I have it in my head to make this movie? Well, I'm from Long Island and when I was a kid, I used to listen the late night radio W S M in Nashville and they would broadcast the Grand Ole operate. The music was unbelievable. Country music, bluegrass music, mountain music, incredible musicians. Plus, you could hear dancing and you can hear clogging, but you couldn't see it. So I sent to the sky it Any tea was a bit older than me, maybe 24. Hey, would you give me money and I'll drive down there and I'll make this movie. And so I did the movie is called Blue Grass Roots. You can see it on my channel. One interesting thing. People don't think this is going on anymore. If you look at the comments, you'll see people saying, Oh, I wish this happened again. This is the good old days. It will never happen again. I missed that time Well, that time still there There are people clogging all over the mountains. There are great music groups in the mountains of Appalachia. There is a lot of young people doing this and just for your interest, one of the people in the film is still clogging. I think she calls her group the Bluegrass Mountain Dancers, and she's nearly 80 and she's still doing it. So I hope you enjoyed this. And if you did and you want to see more, search the word bluegrass on my channel and you'll see a whole bunch of clips from the movie and you can see the entire film on my channel.
