The Disney theme parks are always looking to enhance the guest experience and with 2019
just around the corner, there's quite a few things to get excited for at Disneyland
in California.
From new rides and attractions to updates to current shows and the return of an old
favourite, we're gonna discuss what next year has in store.
So sit back as we count down the Top 5 New Attractions and Updates Coming to Disneyland
in 2019.
Number 5
{Singing} The Wonderful World of color
The nighttime spectacular World of Colour hasn't been performed since April of 2018
and if you've walked past Paradise bay, the fountains and platforms have been exposed
for quite some time now.
You may be wondering when will the show actually be returning to the park.
Well heres the story- in April of 2018 World of Color went down for a scheduled refurbishment
that was supposed to end on June 22nd, allowing the show to be ready for the opening of Pixar
Pier on June 23rd.
Well June 22nd comes and goes and Disney announces that the refurbishment would extend well into
the summer.
In twitter replies they've mentioned that the refurb would extend into late 2018 and
other replies began to say the end of the year.
So what actually happened?
Why such a long closure without any explanations?
Well apparently back in mid may, the main centre platform was accidentally lowered into
the water with electrical components exposed.
This severely damaged the entire centre platform and it required custom parts to be fabricated
to fix the issues.
As of the beginning of November 2018, Disney hasn't officially released any more statements
about World of Color and they have yet to announce a return date.
Since 2016 World of Color Season of Light has been presented during the holiday season
but with this year's holiday entertainment announcements, World of Color was not listed.
I don't think Disney's too confident that these issues will be solved to have the show
ready for the holidays to make their end of the year goal.
It has been rumoured that World of Color won't make a return until 2019 but according to
this tweet here from the team at Attractions 360, it looks like they're trying to get
it up this holiday season.
{Genie} Made you look!
If they do get the show up and running for the holidays it'll be a much needed addition
to the entertainment line up at Disney California Adventure, or what could actually happen is
that World of Color may just be one more thing to look forward to in 2019.
Number 4 On June 23rd, 2018 Pixar Pier officially opened
at Disney California Adventure.
With this overlay we saw new Pixar neighbourhoods pop up around the pier.
This included Incredibles Park home of the newly themed Incredicoaster, The Toy Story
board walk home to Toy Story Midway Mania and the Pixar Promendae home to the Pixar
Pal a Round.
The Pier looks great especially at night, but even though it officially opened in June,
it wasn't fully complete.
Elements have been slowing finished over the last few months.
The luxo Jr animatronic lamp on top of the Pixar Pier sign was finally installed at the
end of October.
He looks great and things are starting to look complete but the pier isn't fully clear
of construction walls.
In 2019 the Toy Story Boardwalk will be home to Jessie's Critter Carousel based off Jessie's
Critters from Woody's Roundup in Toy Story 2.
This is replacing the former king triton carousel and work is well underway.
The carousel has been stripped and repainted, and this new red paint job on the top shell
matches the concept art Disney released.
The former sea creatures on the carousel will be replaced with 56 new animals.
This includes a turtle, snake, bunny, raccoon, ram, deer and a skunk.
Disney hasn't released any official information regarding an opening date but I don't think
it's too far off to assume that we could see Jessie's Critter Carousel make its debut
in late winter.
All the infasture is already there from the old ride and its basically just thematic elements
that need to be added.
Once this ride opens, the Toy Story Boardwalk area of Pixar Pier will finally be complete.
Number 3 The one neighbourhood in Pixar Pier that has
yet come to fruition is the Inside Out Headquarters.
This neighbourhood is gonna be located on the western end of the pier in the centre
of this helix of the Incredicoaster.
The area used to be home to the Maliboomer which was permanently closed and removed in
2010 and remained vacant since.
In 2019 this area will get new life with the addition of Inside Out: Emotional Whirlwind
based on the 2015 film Inside Out.
You'll board one of these balloons and spin around in a circle on a slight tilt, but by
looking at this concept art, doesn't the ride look familiar?
Well if it does, that's because Fliks Flyers from A Bug's Land is being repurposed into
Emotional Whirlwind.
After a Bug's land closed in in 2018 to make way for a new Marvel themed area coming
in 2020, Flik's Flyers was sent off to Italy where it's currently being redesigned into
Emotional Whirlwind.
If this concept art is exactly what we're getting in terms of theming to the ride and
the surrounding area, its gonna bring a nice pop of color to this end of the pier.
Like Jessie's Critter Carousel, Disneyland hasn't released any details of the timeline
of this project aside from it being open in 2019.
Constriction on the area has begun but it doesn't seem as far along as the carousel,
so I'm gonna say that we can expect Emotional Whirlwind to open after Jessie's Critter
carousel sometime in mid 2019.
Once Emotional Ehirlwind opens then the entire Pixar Pier Project will finally be complete.
Number 2 Parades are a quintessential part of the Disney
theme park experience.
The Pixar Play parade made its way into the Disneyland Park for Pixar Fest which began
in April of 2018.
Well on November 4th, 2018 the Pixar Play Parade was performed for the last time, and
while its been around since 2008 at Disney California Adventure, it seems like it might
be going away forever or least for the foreseeable future.
During the holiday season begging November 9th Disneyland runs the Christmas Fantasy
Parade.
After the holidays are over you can expect to see the big return of Mickey's Soundsational
Parade in late January of 2019.
Mickey's Soundsational Parade originally made its debut in May of 2011 and it had its
last performance on November 5th 2017.
With Mickey Mouse turning 90 this year, it seems like a fitting decision to bring the
parade back to Disneyland and who knows, maybe they'll refresh the parade with some new
floats and characters like they did with the Pixar Play Parade.
At the end of October the Disney parks blog released Mickey and Minnie's outfits that
will be worn for the 90th birthday celebration.
These outfits are gonna be used in the Move it Shake it Mousketdance it street party and
it lists that the outfits will also be used at Disneyland.
I'm sure we'll see them show up in the Soundstaional Parade and other 90th birthday
celebrations that still have not been announced for Disneyland.
As of right now Disney hasn't officially released any specific details on Soundsational's
return but the website does list it as a parade returning later.
A casting notice that appeared on the Disney Careers website in August stated that the
parade would begin performances at the end of January.
So get ready to stomp to the beat in 2019 to celebrate Mickey's 90th birthday with
Mickey's Soundsational Parade.
{Music} Come along and sing a song and join the jamboree.
M-i-c-k-e-y M-o-u-s-e.
{Mickey Mouse} Come on!
Follow my lead!
Number 1 The largest addition we'll see in 2019 at
the Disneyland Resort is Star Wars Galaxy's Edge.
Construction began in April of 2016 and this 14 acre land is set to open at the Disneyland
park in summer of 2019.
Exact dates have yet to be released but it will debut well before Galaxy's Edge in
Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World, and it is rumoured to open in June.
Now from the outside they appear to be making great progress on construction.
As the mark twain is making the turn back towards Frontierland, take a look behind you
and you really get a sense of how big this land is gonna be.
In this drone footage Disney Parks released on YouTube, the scale of Glaxy's Edge is
jaw dropping and with it being 14 acres, you might be thinking what exactly can we find
in this land.
Well Star Wars Galaxy's edge will transport you to the planet of Batuu, where you'll
find dining, including the Oga's Cantina bar, character experiences and two brand new
state of the art attractions.
Disney has yet to release the exact names of the attractions but the first is a simulator
attraction that allows you to pilot the millennium falcon.
Each cockpit will seat 6 people and 3 different positions will be assigned.
The two in the front are the pilots, the middle guests are the gunners and the back two seats
will be assigned the engineer positions.
It will be interactive like Mission Space at Epcot in a sense, but the graphics of the
ride will be rendered in realtime.
So how you perform in your assigned positions are said to alter the ride creating a unique
experience every time you're on the falcon.
Next is the battle escape attraction which follows more of the Disney dark ride format.
The attraction will use trackless ride vehicles and according to Disney it will will immerse
you in a hangar bay in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance.
The attraction is rumoured to include multiple detailed pre shows and many animatronics,
which will be placed along the multi level show building.
Star War's Galaxy's edge is gonna be the most immersive land created at Disneyland
since Cars Land and it's definitely bring in big crowds.
So what are you looking forward to the most Disneyland in 2019?
