  • Now videogame adaptations of popular films aren't at all uncommon, though the end result can be a mixed bag, Some films turn games can be good, and some can be downright terrible.

  • One such example of a good video game adaptation is this.

  • Peter Jackson's King Kong.

  • Despite being an Xbox 360 launch title, this game was also available on many other platforms, including the PlayStation two, GameCube, Nintendo D s.

  • And, of course, the PC last on that list.

  • Being the focus of today's video.

  • Now, not only did the game release twice on PC more on that a little later, but the then upcoming launch also inspired this graphics card from a Seuss, the King Kong 7900 GTX.

  • The 7900 GTX was one of the best cars you could buy back in 2006 though it was slightly outpaced in a single card configuration by 80 eyes X 1900 X t x, More exes, more power.

  • I guess this card isn't particularly exciting by today's standards.

  • It's limited to direct text nine support, and there aren't any modern drivers available for Windows 10 that said.

  • This GPU is quite uncommon these days, and even if that doesn't make it expensive, I guess some might call it a collector's item.

  • I was intrigued to see what difference is this card off its spec wise compared to other 79 hundreds.

  • But as far as I can tell, the only major disparity is that this came bundled with a copy off the King Kong game, which in itself was both a blessing and a curse.

  • See, there were two versions of this game.

  • The retail PC version was based on the O G X box version, so it didn't look too great graphically.

  • It also had something called star forced E.

  • R.

  • M.

  • A copy protection method that some came was malware and others blamed for the corruption of their operating system installs.

  • It also stops the game working on Windows eight and above.

  • The second version, known as Thegame, is Edition, or the one we've got here was released as a digital download and on some rpm discs.

  • It's based on the Xbox 360 version, so it has improved visuals and no d.

  • R.

  • M, meaning it works on all modern Windows operating systems.

  • I can't be certain, but I think this is the version that was bundled with the King Kong 7900 graphics card.

  • At least I hope it waas because it was the better version off the two, though it wasn't without its own issues, like graphical glitches and crashes.

  • So when it comes to running this game on the card with, it's a name and logo printed on it, well, it doesn't Okay, job.

  • I'm using a wide screen fixed patch, and I've got the settings turned right up.

  • This game is a linear title when you players both human and King Kong himself, and that's where things get a little more demanding.

  • Some scenarios will see you hitting close to 60 f.

  • P s andi more intense King Kong scenes.

  • Woman dips to the low twenties.

  • Turning the settings down may remedy this a little, but you'll still be getting a few drops below 30 as the eerily portrayed muddy environments unexpectedly pushed this old car to its limit.

  • It's a mixed bag and in fact, if again goes over 60 f p s, it will crash.

  • Even going above 40 f pierce in some levels will cause a crash, too, which is partly why I've got a patch installed.

  • It not only tweaks the resolution to fit modern displays that limits the game frame rate as well.

  • Honestly, this title is very fun to play despite its problems.

  • As you can see, I spent a good few hours completing it yesterday just so I could go back and replay this Kong level.

  • Today, I wonder if there's been a promotional card like this that's ever failed to run the game.

  • It's essentially advertising throughout my tests.

  • I also used a knife I 46 90 that I featured in the last Minecraft recommended PC video simply because it works with Windows seven and that was necessary here in order to install the 7900 duty ex drivers.

  • It will not work on Windows 10 now.

  • This card is essentially obsolete by today's standards, but I feel it's been a while since we looked at something.

  • Really, I would like this despite lacking modern performance, I still enjoy these old beasts on After all this Jeep Iwas, the best money could buy at one point in time with a recommended retail price of 500 U.

  • S.

  • Dollars So what else can it do?

  • Well, let's take a look back at some other classic games and give this card a run for its money.

  • So, as I mentioned before, we all using Windows seven today simply for compatibility reasons.

  • With the card, I'm also using an eye 5 46 90 the non K variance.

  • It has four cause and forth threads, as well as eight gigs off DDR three memory in this rig Now starting off, we have half life, too, And just to retain some of that historic nostalgia, I'm running the games today where I can, at 1600 by 1200 resolution a popular resolution.

  • Back in the day before, we had wide screen monitors and TV's that were capable of 1920 by 10 80.

  • Now, half life two runs very well over 100 frames per second, with some higher and some medium settings.

  • I think this game was certainly ahead of its time when it released, and it has no trouble running on the 7900 GTX now.

  • The original far cry was also a very nice game.

  • When it came out, it was probably also considered ahead of its time the open world on the luscious environments really were quite impressive years ago.

  • It runs okay on the 7900 GTX here with the high settings on the anti A leasing turned up.

  • As we explore the first level on this tropical island we are seeing under 100 frames per second, probably averaging around 80 here.

  • But I think at 1600 by 1200 thegame still looks very nice, very crisp.

  • And you have a great time on this GPU, considering you can pick these up for just a few pounds, dollars or euros sometimes even for pennies, a car, boot sales, places like that.

  • Then I don't think it's too bad when it comes to handling some of the older games out there.

  • Crisis is where this card started to struggle.

  • We had to run it at 1024 by 768 with all forms of anti A leasing turned off.

  • And, of course, this was running in direct X nine mode.

  • Now this game will running direct, takes nine or direct takes 10 depending on your graphics hardware on indirect Tex nine mode.

  • Here we were limited to the high settings maximum very high is grayed out, and you cannot run it with those settings on a direct X nine.

  • GPU.

  • However, that's probably a good thing, because even with direct text nine here, we weren't able to average 30 frames per second, which is what I would consider playable if we were able to hit it.

  • Although in first person shooters like Crisis, it's a ways a nicer to get as close to 60 f.

  • P s as possible.

  • Now this next one needs no introduction.

  • This is The Simpsons hit and run, probably one of the best games ever created.

  • It's certainly the best Simpsons game ever created, in my opinion, I think if you haven't played this yet, it's certainly a must play.

  • It came out many years ago, and I don't think it's been topped in terms of Simpson's Triple eight titles.

  • I know The Simpsons game that came out on PS two X box 360 Pierce three.

  • All of those consoles was quite good, but I don't think it was quite good as this absolute gem.

  • We didn't really need to work out the average frame rates and what not here because it's more than playable especially when you consider the minimum requirements for this game of something like a painting.

  • Three.

  • So if you've got a process of that's better than that or a graphics card that's better than any $5 or £5 component that you'd find on eBay, then you should be able to run this just fine.

  • What a classic Grand Theft Auto.

  • San Andreas is also an excellent title that runs very nicely on the 7900 GTX.

  • Now, when you turn up the ante a leasing settings, it can make the game quite a bit more demanding.

  • I did that here.

  • Andi quickly turned it down again when I realized that we weren't really getting anywhere.

  • There were quite a few frame drops here and there.

  • But even so, with the settings reduced a little bit, we were still seeing a couple of dips.

  • Though it's nothing game breaking.

  • I still had a very nice time with G ta here.

  • This is another one of those games that never gets old, and thankfully, it runs on all sorts of hardware.

  • Finally, I played through the introductory level off call of duty to we haven't really looked at something this old in a while, and sometimes I miss that because there are some classic games to be played out, and it just feels more or thing ticking away when you're playing them on older whole Guerra's Well, that might sound quite odd, but in some cases I noticed that running older games with new hardware can actually pose more issues than running said Games on older stuff.

  • Now the 7900 Duty X was a top of the range GPU, losing our only two 80 eyes.

  • Now I am days x 1900 X t x And if you had one of these back in the day, well, I'm sure your friends would have Bean very jealous these days.

  • It's not capable of much, but it can be picked up for very little money when it comes to running some of those older games out there.

  • Some of those absolute classics.

  • Well, it will do a fine job, whether it be a 30 or 60 f.

  • P.

  • S.

  • In a lot of instances, with all that sudden done, this has been the King Kong 7900 GTX card review.

  • I do hope you've enjoyed it.

  • If you did leave a lock on it down below.

  • If you didn't leave a dislike, subscribe to the channel if you haven't done so already.

  • And in the next one will be taking a look at Samsung's very first gaming laptop something I'm very excited about.

  • I'm looking at it right now in front of Mae.

  • I can't pick it up.

  • It's too heavy.

  • I need a crane.
