Now, while this may look like a haphazard pile of keys, it's actually a number set of 256 precision cut keys intended to take advantage of a design weakness in the quick set smart key system.

Because the system is intended to work with existing keys, which could have excessive wear or might not have been cut accurately to start with, the lock needs to allow a fairly large margin of error.

The maker of these keys exploited that such that each of the tryout keys is just close enough to dozens of real key configurations that it will operate as a substitute 98% of the time.

At least that's the claim of the manufacturer.

Now I do recognize this isn't the fastest exploit in the world.

I twice times myself trying every key in the set and was able to try them all in about 10 minutes.

And it's important to remember that on average, you'll only need to try half of them.

So while it's not fast, it's not overly slow either.

So I have this quick set lock here, and we're going to try to find the one key from this whole set that opens it up.

It's gonna take a few minutes, so let's get started.

Okay, We got it open.

So obviously it takes a little bit of time, but depending on your skill level, it could be faster than picking.

And it's certainly faster than drilling and replacing the lock.

Also, for the covert entry types out there, it bears note that this will not leave the telltale tool marks of picking.

So that's another advantage of the system.
