That's what police in Washington state had to figure out recently after a £600 sea lion was spotted two miles from water.

Okay, not arrest, exactly, but the large mammal needed to get out of the middle of the road.

Wildlife officials held up large, flat surfaces to try to deter the sea lion from going deeper into the forest.

It wasn't an easy task.

The sea lion clearly didn't appreciate it.

The creature lunged at officials before doing an about face and lumbering back down the road.

After several tense moments, they were able to corral the seal and walrus relative into a pen on a truck.

Sea lion still wasn't loving it, but likely it was a lot happier when it got to go back to the water.

And a much smaller, cuter version of the species also needed some help.

Recently, drivers in Long Beach, California, spotted this sea lion pup trying to cross a busy freeway.

When the highway patrol showed up, the pub crawled under one of their cars.

Officers were eventually able to snare the little one and bring her to the marine mammal care center in San Pedro.

Every year we find a few animals that are very far out of habitat.

I don't think she knew she was headed for the freeway, so she probably didn't know where she was headed.

The pub will eventually be headed back to her natural habitat after putting on some weight and learning how to hunt and feed herself.
