  • What is up guys?

  • Forest here and today I've been working on a Q and A video.

  • That's question and answer, because a lot of you have a lot of questions.

  • But there's one that really stuck out, and I want to make a full video about it.

  • And that's this video.

  • What social networks should we have as software developers?

  • All right, so let's paint a picture real quick.

  • You're either a software developer or an aspiring sulfur developer looking for a job or alert looking for client work.

  • You may be going to all these different places indeed dot com and all the other job sites in applying to each and every different software developer job in your area that you confined.

  • Or maybe you're out there looking for clients as well.

  • But in order to prove to those people that you're able to do your work, you need more than just a paper resume listing.

  • I've done this project.

  • I've done this project, which keep in mind you want to list particular projects that you've done in the past and with what language and what I d maybe.

  • But just essentially say I've done this project in this language.

  • That's a good thing to put in your resume, but that's besides the point.

  • But where they're gonna find those projects and see the code that you've actually written, that's get up.

  • Get Hub, in my opinion, is the most important social platform that you need to be on it.

  • Now.

  • Some people may argue it's not a social platform.

  • I don't know who would actually be arguing that because technically is you can follow people you have.

  • People follow you.

  • You can interact with other people's code for kit.

  • Push potential features into other people's code because it's open source platform.

  • If you don't know again, Hub is look into it and get one.

  • If you know it, get hovers.

  • And if you don't have an account, make one and after you make it work on projects that you'll be proud to put on, get hub dot com.

  • If you're not proud to put it on, give Hub.

  • Then why are you proud enough to be a point to these jobs?

  • You see what I mean, so make sure you have a gift of account, and even if a nap location or some piece of software that you wrote isn't amazing.

  • It's better than nothing.

  • So put, don't get the second most important social media platform is linked in Linked in is your online resume.

  • I mean, for example, let's take a look at my linked in to kind of give you a better understanding of what linked in is all about if you don't know what it is about.

  • So here's my LinkedIn profile.

  • Not gonna go over full detail if you want to go ahead.

  • You can see the euro up here and go ahead and connect with me.

  • As you can see, I have around.

  • I'm connected around 41 people.

  • But up here is a basic overview.

  • My profile picture, my name, my job title where I currently work or most recently worked and then my school.

  • I also have a brief description that I wrote for myself.

  • So sulfur developer of over four years and job seekers plus yada, yada yada.

  • I put my languages Technologies and look at that full circle back to my give account because I want them to see what I'm actually capable of.

  • And right below that is just like a regular resume.

  • We have my experience and then below that we have my education and then below that.

  • We also have volunteer experience, but then below that, we have featured skills and endorsement.

  • So basically, you put your skills.

  • I put Java, Iose development swift and among other things, and you have people endorse them.

  • So Mary L, I believe, found me on YouTube endorsed those skills for me.

  • Thank you, by the way and then below.

  • That really doesn't matter.

  • So what I'm saying is get a LinkedIn account because that is your online resume and you're able to network within your career field.

  • I'm sure you've heard the saying relationships will get you jobs.

  • And if you create relationships with people, whether it's online or in real life, it's better than nothing.

  • Now those are the two social networks that I recommend every developer to have get hub to show off your code and then fork and kind of participate in the open source community and then linked in Thio.

  • Show off your online resume as well as connect with people in your career field, and the few social networks are going to talk about here are really more so individual.

  • Now those two I think are necessary these next three or so, maybe not so much, but you'll probably find yourself using him one time or another first.

  • Obviously, I'm gonna talk about YouTube because YouTube not every or most or any sulfur developer needs YouTube.

  • But it has benefited me because I've learned from you guys.

  • I've created relationships over YouTube that I probably never would've had otherwise.

  • And I've actually got myself a job interview because of my YouTube channel.

  • Actually, my professor of my Web development course family, you to channel because it was connected up to my get up account at one point and he knew a project manager at a government contracting self development firm, and he recommended me to him for the job position that was opening.

  • That's a job engineer job.

  • You can see me talk about that interview and how all that came to light in the video right here.

  • Or maybe it's right there.

  • I never know which corner it's in, but for me, you tip has been beneficial in this career field and saw for development.

  • Iowa's development would have, but there are a few other social networks that you'll probably find yourself having more benefit from, and that would be Facebook and stack overflow.

  • Now, I don't know if Stack overflow is considered a social network or not, but it's a it's a forum of some sort, and that's where you could ask problems and then get your problems answered.

  • I can kind of say that although you might want to have thick skin asking your first stack overflow question, because there they're pretty brutal over there, remember asking my first question.

  • It wasn't very, very delightful.

  • And ever since then I've never really participated in Stack overflow.

  • Other than looking up a problem, finding out that problem has already been asked and solved one stack overflow and then kind of using that knowledge to integrate my code properly.

  • So stack overflow.

  • You will find yourself using that s offer developer without a doubt, whether you're answering questions, asking questions or just reading the answers to the questions that you have now, I can't finish off this video without mentioning Facebook.

  • Now, me, I personally don't have Facebook.

  • I did back when I was in high school, but I got rid of it during high school for various reasons, and I haven't gotten back on Facebook other than to test out like Facebook ads and things that nature ever since then.

  • Now I know people that use Facebook, and they don't just use Facebook to connect with their brother or their friend from high school or their parents.

  • They also used Facebook to participate in groups that are related to their career.

  • My fiance, for example, is an esthetician, and there's a group full of aestheticians, and they kind of they talk about things that go on within their career, at their job, things of that nature.

  • I know there are groups like that for software developers and specific cell for developers like Java developers or IOS developers or Andrew developers and things of that sort.

  • So when it comes to Facebook and being on a social network, that's probably a big one for many, many people.

  • I just didn't list it in my top two because I personally don't use it.

  • But that's different for everybody.

  • I'm personally not the best at using social media.

  • I have a Twitter that I rarely used.

  • Follow me on that Lincoln, always down in the video description below and also have an instagram that I haven't used in a while.

  • But then, of course I have you two.

  • That's the thing I'm most consistent on.

  • And even even that my school and other things get in the way because it takes a lot more work to make a YouTube video than to type on Twitter Having a good day today.

  • Oh, I had sushi for lunch.

  • I'm kind of playing because Twitter isn't all about just saying, you know, step by step your day.

  • But I'm just trying to give you an example of how I'm not the biggest on social media.

  • But I do make sure I upload all my project to get up and that my resume is always up to date on LinkedIn and I always try Thio upload consistent videos on YouTube.

  • So take with that what you will.

  • I hope you guys enjoyed this video.

  • I am going to address the whole slack discord channel for the community here in the Q and A video.

  • So stay tuned for that.

  • If you're new here, consider subscribing.

  • If you like the video, be sure to do that.

What is up guys?
