For those of you who don't what Catfish is…it's basically this show on MTV where they follow around people who've been in online relationships. The term “getting catfished” refers to when you think you've been talking to someone…only to find out you've been talking to some random person. You don't even know who they are! I thought it was a perfect opportunity for me to make this video: How Not To Get Catfished. New videos every Sunday. No Jugamos Juegos. Throw me the alley. So you want to learn how not to get catfished? Welp, grab a wooden giraffe and a regulation size basketball and strap yourself in cause this one's going to be a doozie. One of the best ways you can avoid getting catfished is by knowing the warning signs. Normally, some people would use what we refer to as “common sense”, but as we all know, common sense is not that common these days. Haha! So let's go ahead and identify some of these red flags. If a person has less than 200 friends on Facebook, this is a good sign you may be getting catfished. There are some people who don't even know 200 of their friends on Facebook. Get with it people. Another clear warning sign is that if their Facebook account was created in 2013, heck, even 2012. Because really, who do you know that just got a Facebook account who's not over the age of 40? Other signs include, but are not limited to: A low amount of photos; If they have no photos; If no one knows who they are; If they say they have no cell phone. Indeed, refusal to talk on the phone is one of the many tell-tale signs that fine girl that you've been talking to for the past four years…may in fact…be a 56-year-old dude. As we've seen in previous cases, just knowing the warning signs is not enough. So what can you do? You can protect yourself. And there are four primary ways that you can protect yourself from getting catfished. The first step is the easiest of all four: Keep it real. If you've never been with someone who is very attractive in your lifetime, the odds of this happening for the first time over the Internet are very low. You need to keep it real with yourself. Another way to protect yourself from getting catfished is by Skyping with someone. If you are still able to get catfished after Skyping with an individual, you deserve it. Remember, Skype is free. And you can't buy back your dignity from your friends, especially because that fine girl that they told you was going to be a man…turned out to be a man. The third way that you can protect yourself is by meeting up with this person I-R-L. That's in real life. You're going to have to do this eventually anyways. So, why not do it before a year or six passes? Meeting in person will at least confirm that you're talking to the right individual, even if they may be 137 pounds more than what their profile picture suggests. The final way you can protect yourself is by doing a simple Google image search. In fact, this is all they do on the show MTV Catfish. Simply drag and drop a photo and it will show you which MySpace profile these people have taken their photos from. I can guarantee that if you follow these steps, by recognizing the warning signs and protecting yourself, you will not end up looking like a gosh darn fool in front of your family and friends…at least because of an online relationship. Remember, I'm Scooter Magruder and now you know how too. The first rule in learning how not to flunk out of college is: go to class. This is perhaps one of the hardest things to do in college. Grab a wooden shaped giraffe object and a regulation-sized basketball. Grab a wooden shaped giraffe object and a regulation size basketball and strap yourself in cause... So you want to learn how not to get catfished? Welp, grab a wood. Welp, grab a wood. Grab a wooden size giraffe. A wooden size, that doesn't make any sense. Grab a wooden giraffe and a regulation size basketball cause this one's going to be a doozie. I'm a grown man.
