  • Hello, everyone.

  • Welcome to another video.

  • Now, hopefully you've watched my X box retrospective.

  • By now I know that I completely fell in love with a consul that I've never previously owned.

  • I was so excited about the concept of owning such an old beast, in fact, that I went out and bought a 2nd 1 But not for the reasons you might expect.

  • I meant trend in my oh, gee x box retrospective video How much the console itself reminded me of an old i o T x p c.

  • Considering it used traditional parts like a DVD drive on hard disk, for example, as well as a Pentium three CPU.

  • This gave me a bit of an idea.

  • I decided to purchase the second X box in the hopes of turning it into a modern day I t x build.

  • I don't want to bring you along on every step of the way.

  • Now, hopefully by now you've been updated on the max situation.

  • The conversion for that is underway, as many of you have been asking.

  • So I wanted to start a new project while the Mac is in the workshop, so to speak.

  • That means initially getting the OD Xbox in preparation for some new A parts.

  • And I thought we do that today.

  • So take it apart, talk you through the components in more detail, give it a bit of a cleanup and tell you my initial plans before the new innards off this old beast.

  • So let's get into it.

  • Take this thing apart, give it a good cleanup.

  • Now the first thing to do is take your original Xbox and flip it over, because that's how you undo it.

  • Now the screws may seem hard to find, first of all, and that's because they're pretty well hidden under these little rubber protectors here.

  • Simply remove all of them.

  • As you can see, I've done this before hand because it will take a little bit more force than this on Dhe removed the screws.

  • Now, To do this, you'll need one of those talks screwdrivers, the ones with head that looks a little bit like a star.

  • And that's what you'll need throughout because pretty much every screw in this system uses that special sort of six pin.

  • I like to call it design now.

  • The four initial screws here are, of course, the easiest ones to get to on the remaining two can be found underneath a couple of these warning labels that tell you not to take your X box apart.

  • Silo.

  • Yeah, you'll have to pill those stickers up.

  • First of all, once you've done that, you can flip it back over and simply slide the top half off the consul off.

  • You'll see how much it resembles a little i t x p c underneath with the DVD drive and hard disk clearly visible.

  • First of all, these air the second things that going to need to come out so that we can access our mother board as well as the power supply.

  • Because everything here needs removing, we want to essentially turn this into a shell.

  • First things first.

  • We're going to remove the idee cable from the DVD drive here before trying to locate the screws so that we can remove the drive.

  • Bay will also have to take the Molex connector out that's attached to the hard drive.

  • Now, just like with a traditional PC, this Molex cable will be an absolute pain to remove.

  • It will require quite a bit of force because it's likely that this particular one hasn't been removed from the hard drive since the consul first released way back in 2000 and two, So it's gonna require a little bit of force.

  • It will give you pretty sore finger tips, but if you want to convert your X box to a PC, then it's goingto have to come out of there.

  • Next up, there'll be three screws around the DVD drive that need to come out.

  • Remember, you'll need to use your talks.

  • Start headed screwdriver here to remove set screws on dhe.

  • Once you removed or loosened or three, you should be able to remove the hard drive bay.

  • First of all, the hard drive's bay will have to come out because it obstructs the DVD drive.

  • So simply remove any cables from that.

  • If you haven't done so already on dhe, lift it out off the system.

  • You can see this reveals a little bit off our Pentium three based motherboard underneath as well, of course, as the power supply, which just looks like an ordinary small form factor.

  • Ps you with the outside removed.

  • I didn't even recognize what this was at first until I thought, of course, there's a power cable coming from it.

  • So it must be what powers that unit.

  • This will have to come out as well, but not quite yet, because we're going to have to take the motherboard out.

  • First of all, next up we can remove the DVD drive.

  • Now, you should have already loosened the screws.

  • But if the drive doesn't want to budge, then you may need to take them out completely.

  • Once you've done that, the DVD drive enclosed within its own little bay here should lift right out just as the hard drive dead.

  • This thing is starting to look like the basis of a PC build already, once we've removed both of those drives.

  • And now the complete power supply as well as the motherboard is entirely visible, as well as all of the connections that power various things within this consul.

  • And what surprised me is how clean this thing is.

  • There was absolutely no dust inside this.

  • I ran my finger around the outside of the rather flimsy metal enclosure and there was no dust whatsoever.

  • Even the fan at the back had no dust at all.

  • So it seems that this Xbox was kept in a fairly clean environment for most of its life.

  • The outside looks a little rough and bashed up with a few scratches on the outer case, but inside this thing, it's absolutely immaculate.

  • But it's amazing to see that this thing probably won't even need to clean up at the end of all this.

  • Before removing the motherboard screws, it's advisable to remove the power supply.

  • 20 pin connector first of all, because if you try to do this after you've loosened the screws, you're likely just going to pull the whole motherboard out of the system as well.

  • So pull this out first before loosening the screws again.

  • You will need your six pin or six angled six headed whatever you'd like to call it talks.

  • Screwdriver.

  • These are available in most hardware stores or online, of course, for very little money.

  • Also unplug any cables that still connected to the motherboard before undoing these screws, too.

  • But once you have located all of the screws on the board itself, loosen them or remove them completely.

  • And after doing so, the board it should lift right out.

  • This thing is absolutely tiny, and it's pretty much identical to an i t X.

  • Another bold, although it does have its own custom form factor, which isn't surprising.

  • Once the board removed here, you can see we've got the empty shell off the case coming along nicely and as I said before, is very, very clean.

  • Now we're going to leave the fan in the back there for now because it would give us an idea of how big your motherboard can be without taking up much room because it will be essential toe have at least one or two fans in this thing at the end of the process to ensure decent airflow.

  • Removing a couple more screws means that you can also remove the power supply here, and you should be left with a completely empty chassis afterwards off course, aside from that fan, which you can remove if you like.

  • But as I said before, I'll be leaving in there to give us a better idea of the size and how much space we actually have.

  • After what, I'm gonna feel this thing with PC components only to not be able to fit any type of calling solution in here at all.

  • I'm probably going to go with a small form factor.

  • PS.

  • You're 300 or 350.

  • What one?

  • Because I know that that will still be sufficient enough to run a low profile card like a duty x 10 50.

  • I've pretty much got it in my head already that that's the sort of thing I'll be using.

  • Along with either a core ay three or entry level rising.

  • I might skip the graphics card altogether and go with the new rising A P U.

  • It all depends on how much room we've got.

  • After we put a PS you in on whether or not this can accommodate 1/2 height graphics card as well.

  • Otherwise, we may have to shave a little bit off the top.

  • The plastics also quite flimsy, so it should be easy to cut with, like a Dremel tool or something like that.

  • Unlike the Mac, which is pretty thick and quite awkward, toe work with will have to cut a bit out the back of the unit to accommodate the Io Shield because this is in no way representative off what a traditional PC case looks like.

  • A the back.

  • So we will need to cut a sort of rectangular shape out here to accommodate those IO connections on the back off the motherboard.

  • I do plan on putting the Io Shield in and not just leaving it open, because I want to give it somewhat decent protection against any dust that might get in.

  • That being said, I think this will make for a pretty decent looking, old school sleeper style build.

  • And once we get some modern components in there, it should be able to run modern PC games just fine.

  • This isn't my only Xbox, of course.

  • I have bought a second counsel because I want the ability of still playing original Xbox games on it because I've fallen in love.

  • As I said before with the original consuls games, I don't know why I didn't buy 1/6 generation consul earlier, My PS two still under the bed that there was something really special about getting this Onder.

  • That's what made me want to get up to my TV and leave it there, I think, but hopefully this project will get underway a lot quicker than the Mac wanded, and we should be able to make some alterations pretty soon so is a waste.

  • Thank you for watching.

  • Thank you for following along with this new project.

  • I haven't got a very good history, naturally finishing projects.

  • But I promise you now that this will be something that gets done.

  • I'm really looking forward to seeing what we can do with this thing.

  • And I hope you guys are as well.

  • For now, though, Thank you for watching.

  • If you like to leave a like on it.

  • If you didn't leave a dislike on it, let me know if you've ever undergone a project like this yourselves subscribe to the channel if you haven't done so already.

  • I'd also like to hear suggestions about possible setups to graphics cards.

  • CP use all that sort stuff as well as what sort of power supply you think would be ideal here.

  • Because it may be a struggle to find something that fits.

  • Although I'm pretty sure small form factor one should do.

  • Okay.

  • If not, we might have to rig some sort of external set up up to this machine.

  • But it shouldn't have to come to that.

  • We should find something that fits our sea.

Hello, everyone.
