Once upon a time, there was a boy named Jack, who lived with his mother in a little cottage.

They were very poor, and their only valuable possession was cow that was too old to produce any milk.

On his way to the market, Jack was stopped by a mysterious old man.

I will give you this bean in exchange for your cow.

我用這顆豆子跟你交換乳牛

Why would I give you a whole cow for one little bean?

我為什麼要用整頭牛換你那顆小豆子呢

This isn't just any bean! It's a magic bean.

這可不是一般的豆子！這是一顆魔豆

It will grow into a beanstalk that touches the sky overnight!

它會在一夜之間長高，直達天際

That's impossible. Why should I believe you?

這不可能。我為什麼要相信你？

If my words don't come true,

如果我說的話沒有成真，

you can have your cow back tomorrow.

你明天就可以把乳牛帶回去

Jack wasn't really convinced, but what did he have to lose?

傑克沒有完全信服，但他又有什麼可以失去的呢？

He traded his cow for the magic bean.

Tell me, how much did you get for the cow?

Jack's mother was furious.

She tossed the magic bean out the room and sent Jack to the attic without supper.

When Jack woke up early the next morning and looked out of his window,

He saw something that hadn't been there before

Jumping out of his window, Jack landed on the magic tree and looked up.

The old man told me the truth!

It really is touching the sky!

Oh~ I'm going to check it out.

噢，我要上去瞧瞧

Curious to see where it led, Jack began to clamber up the beanstalk.

After climbing all day, Jack finally reached the sky.

There were fluffy clouds all around him, and in front of him was a magnificent castle.

He was beginning to feel tired and very hungry,

so he approached the castle's enormous doors and knocked as loudly as he could.

Can I please have something to eat?

Suddenly, the heavy door creaked open, all by itself.

突然之間，厚重的門自己打開了

Surprised, Jack went in and looked around.

傑克訝異地走了進去並環顧四周

He had never seen anything so beautiful or so shiny.

他從沒看過這麼漂亮又閃耀的東西

Finally, Jack found his way into the kitchen where he discovered a loaf of bread and some milk.

終於，傑克找到廚房的方向，並在那兒發現了一條麵包和一些牛奶

Just as he was about to sink his teeth into its crispy crust,

He heard loud, booming footsteps

and the entire castle shook as if there was an earthquake.

Frightened, Jack ducked under the table.

The next moment a horrible giant entered the room with sacks of gold coins in his hands.

The giant looked around, but he did not see anyone.

Perhaps it's just the smell of the turkey I had last night....

I am tired, I think I will go to bed

As soon as the giant left the room, Jack emerged from his hiding place and made his way onto the table.

巨人一離開房門，傑克隨即從躲藏之處爬起來，並爬上餐桌

Wow, look at all that gold! We will be rich now!

哇，看看這些金子！我們要發財了！

Jack grabbed two sacks of coins and left from the table.

傑克拿了兩袋金幣，然後離開桌子

He crept through the giant's living room, quiet as a mouse and ran back to the beanstalk.

Jack told his mother all about his adventure

and about the giant and showed her the sacks of gold.

A few days later Jack climbed the beanstalk again and went back to the castle.

As he was sneaking around the castle

he heard the giant's booming footsteps again.

他又聽到巨人隆隆作響的腳步聲了

He couldn't reach the table fast enough, so this time he hid in the closet.

他來不及到達餐桌處，所以這次他躲在衣櫥裡

Ha, ha, ha! Lay me a golden egg, immediately!

哈哈哈！馬上下一顆金雞蛋給我！

Abracadabra!

（念咒語！）

The hen obeyed instantly and laid him a shiny golden egg.

母雞立刻聽話地下了一顆閃亮的金雞蛋

The giant took it and left the room.

巨人把蛋拿走並離開房間

As soon as the giant went away, Jack climbed onto the table and took the hen.

巨人一離開，傑克馬上爬到桌上並帶走母雞

He snuck out very quietly and ran to the beanstalk before the giant realized what had happened.

在巨人發現之前，他偷偷摸摸地跑回豆莖的位置

Jack came home and showed the hen to his mother.

傑克回到家，向媽媽展示這隻母雞

Look, Mom, it lays real golden eggs!

媽，你看，牠會下金雞蛋！

Give me an egg! Abracadabra!

Obedient as before, the hen produced another golden egg.

Jack, stealing from others is wrong.

You have to learn an honest trade and work hard for your living.

Jack became greedier and greedier and went back to the castle to steal more.

When he came in, the giant was there and Jack heard him talking.

As soon as the giant left the room, Jack climbed onto the table once again and carefully picked up the harp.

To his dismay, the moment he took it into his hands the harp began to shout.

沒想到，當他拿起豎琴時，豎琴竟開始大叫

Master! Master! Someone is trying to steal me!

主人！主人！有人要偷我！

Hearing the harp's call the giant rushed into the kitchen and spotted Jack before he was able to hide

聽到豎琴的叫聲，巨人衝進廚房，在傑克還沒來得及躲起來之時逮到了他

You! How dare you take my harp! Are you the same thief who stole my gold coins and my magic hen as well?

你！你竟敢偷我的豎琴！你是不是那個偷我金幣跟母雞的小偷？

Jack slid between the giant's legs and ran for his life.

傑克從巨人的雙腿間滑過，開始逃命

Jack slid down the beanstalk, the wind whistling in his ears.

傑克快速滑下豆莖，風在他耳邊呼呼而過

But when he looked up, he saw that the giant was coming down after him!

但當他抬頭往上看，他發現巨人正追著他爬下來！

Reaching the ground, Jack grabbed an axe and began to hack away at the thick beanstalk

到達地面後，傑克拿了把斧頭開始砍粗大的樹莖

With a loud crack, the beanstalk broke and came crashing down.

一聲巨響後，樹莖斷掉倒了下來

Losing his grip, the giant came tumbling down with it and fell to the ground dead.

巨人失去支撐，隨著樹莖滾下來，摔死在地上

That day, Jack learned an important lesson.

那天，傑克學到重要的一課

He never allowed himself to become greedy again, and understood that he had to work hard every day,

他不再貪心，並了解到自己必須每天努力工作

then he would live happily ever after.

如此一來，他就能過著幸福快樂的生活
