Yeah, I was working at my fire department full time,

another fire department part time,

and at the hospital part time.

So how long have you worked at the firehouse there?

I've worked at Webster Groves almost four years now.

Four years?

Yep.

They're great guys?

And you started a nonprofit to give back to the-- this

is what's really cool.

So you all take money out of your paycheck, which isn't--

Yeah.

--much at all to start with.

Yeah.

And explain what you do.

So we all donate money out of our own paychecks

to fund this nonprofit.

And then we give back to the community around us.

So we build like sidewalks for people that

need better wheelchair access.

We give away scholarships for high schools.

We do service dogs.

But all out of your own-- that's amazing.

this camaraderie, this family--

But there's been times that, I think,

it's even more important.

And I want you to explain what has been going on,

what it feels like to have this support.

Well, about 10 years ago, my wife

was diagnosed with breast cancer.

And neither of us worked for about a year,

but the guys at the firehouse kept my paycheck

coming in, making sure we were fed, making sure my kids

were taken care of and just--

it's just another family.

Yeah.

Yes?

Oh, it's just one of those jobs where

you see things that are tough to get through sometimes.

And sometimes you don't have the family support that understands

what you're going through.

But to have these guys as your extended family

and they understand what we do and what we see.

And we lean on them like we do our own families.
