Cameron Crowe, the director, wrote this.

He wrote the 22-page mission statement

specifically for this film.

That was really odd that he wrote a whole

22-page mission statement.

That way Tom Cruise had something to work with.

And his airline ticket?

I mean, I made up airline tickets for all the cast

because it helps the actor.

They're no longer Tom Cruise, no longer Renee Zellweger.

They are that character.

So Tom Cruise actually wore these sunglasses?

Yes.

One day he put them on and he loved them.

And he came in, and he said, Hope, I want to wear these.

These wouldn't have been for close-ups.

But these would have been what he wore, you know?
