  • but I'm going to go out on a limb and say, it's not as nice as the day I'm having.

  • What my co-awardees and I identified was a molecular pathway that allows cells to sense

  • oxygen and depending how much oxygen they are getting, to respond appropriately by turning

  • on specific genes, that for example:

  • might stimulate red blood cell production or might stimulate blood vessel formation.

  • When I was younger, my late wife and I would you know sort of have fun together and talk about what would be like,

  • what would happen, what would it be like if you ever won this prize?

  • To be honest, there were a couple of years after I lost her, that I thought, "Please, not

  • a prize cause it would be just too bittersweet."

  • But I'm at a point now that I'd like to think she is smiling down, and nodding and saying

  • “I told you! I told you this was going to happen."
