  • Hello everyone! Many students asked me how I learned English.

    哈囉大家好,很多學生會問我以前怎麼學英文的?

  • My answer is quite simple.

    我的答案很簡單。

  • I never paid attention in English classes in high school.

    我讀高中時,從來沒有認真上過英文課。

  • That's not a joke!

    這真的不是開玩笑的!

  • Don't take it the wrong way.

    但是別誤會。

  • I love my high school teachers. They were amazing!

    我很喜歡我的高中老師,他們很好!

  • The thing is, I hated textbooks so much. They were so boring!

    重點是,我很討厭教科書,因為內容太無聊了!

  • So I read lots of novels. I watched TV series, especially those TV shows.

    所以我閱讀了很多小說、看了很多影集,尤其是電視劇。

  • They were so interesting.

    這些內容非常地有趣。

  • I loved them. I spent time on it EVERY SINGLE DAY.

    我超愛它們。每天花了很多時間在做這些事情。

  • Most importantly, I was a little bit dramatic while I was watching the shows.

    最重要的是,在看這些電視影集或小說時,我會有點「激動」。

  • We will get to that later.

    我們待會會談到。

  • When it comes to learning English, there's an annoying myth.

    當我們談到學習英文,會有個惱人的迷思。

  • I can't speak English fluently because I have a limited vocabulary.

    我不能流利地說英文,因為我會的英文詞彙不多。

  • And...

    或是...

  • Grammar it's not my friend!

    我不懂英文文法!

  • Remember how you learned your mother tongue?

    還記得你是如何學習你的母語嗎?

  • Let's say the first day you learned the word "apple."

    我們來談談你第一天學到「蘋果」這個詞。

  • Your mom and daddy introduced apple to you.

    你的爸媽向你介紹蘋果。

  • They kept chanting "apple".

    他們不斷地覆誦蘋果、蘋果、蘋果。

  • And you were like what on earth is apple?

    而你一臉茫然地想著:「到底什麼是蘋果?」

  • Then you found, hmm... it smells so good. It's tasty!

    之後你就發現,嗯... 這聞起來好香、很美味!

  • So you happily shouted " Apple! Yummy!"

    你開心的大喊:蘋果!好好吃!

  • Your mommy and daddy were so happy!

    你的爸媽超開心!

  • They even posted a video of you trying apples on Facebook.

    甚至把你試吃蘋果的影片上傳到 Facebook。

  • And got thousands of likes.

    獲得好幾千個讚數。

  • So how did you learn the word "apple"?

    所以你如何學會「蘋果」這個詞的?

  • It's a connection between the word and all the vivid memories.

    這就是詞彙與生動記憶之間的連結。

  • Including your parents' smiley faces, the taste of the apple, and you will never forget.

    其中包含你父母開心的臉,以及蘋果嚐起來的滋味,這使你永遠不會忘記。

  • To put it another way, you have to feel the language when you learn it.

    換一種方式來說,當你學習語言時,你必須去「感受」語言。

  • It's like when we live in a foreign country, we soon pick up the language.

    就像是我們住在國外時,很快就能學會當地語言一樣。

  • You must be thinking now...

    你一定會想說...

  • Great! Serena, You know what?

    好喔!Serena 你知道嗎?

  • I cannot move to another country,

    我無法搬去其他國家,

  • so I don't have an all-English environment.

    所以我不能擁有全英文的環境。

  • You can create the environment yourself.

    其實你可以自己創造一個全英文的環境。

  • Here are some tips:

    這裡有些秘訣:

  • First, don't think that you have to learn general English that you can use in all kinds of situations in like three weeks or three months.

    第一,不要只想花3 個禮拜或 3 個月就要學完所有可以套用在各種情況之中的英文。

  • It will be a long journey.

    這是一個長期的學習過程。

  • So you have to break it into small and actionable steps.

    你必須把學習變成好幾個小而可行的步驟。

  • For example, if you are a foodie, start with food, find interesting videos online about your favorite food,

    例如,如果你是個吃貨, 就從食物開始,在網路上找一些你喜歡的美食影片,

  • pick up those words and use it immediately.

    把影片中的詞彙學習起來並且馬上使用。

  • By doing so, you won't feel stressed out.

    這麼一來,你不會備感壓力,

  • Because you only need a certain amount of vocabulary to describe the items you like.

    因為你僅需要有一部份的詞彙去形容你喜歡的東西。

  • That also means, you will be willing to practice on a daily basis.

    這也代表,你會很願意每天都做練習。

  • Second, let's talk about shadowing.

    第二,我們來談談「跟讀」。

  • I know you've heard that! But, did you do it right?

    我知道你們一定都有聽過,但是!你有做對嗎?

  • Why shadowing is helpful?

    為什麼跟讀會對你有益?

  • It's for us to have the connections between the situation in the TV shows and the spoken English.

    這會讓我們的英文口說對電視劇產生關聯。

  • When you shadow, you not only learn what you're saying, you also have to pretend that you are the actor or actress in the TV shows.

    當你在跟讀的時候,不只是學到你所念出來的字句,還必須要假裝自己是電視劇裡的演員。

  • That's what I did when I was in high school.

    這就是我在高中時所做的事情 (戲劇化的跟讀)。

  • For example, when the actor shouted "I can't believe it."

    舉例來說, 當演員大喊「我不敢置信! 」

  • I would say "I can't believe it!"

    我會跟著大喊「我!不!敢!置!信! 」

  • Why dramatic shadowing can help you learn English effectively?

    為何戲劇化跟讀可以幫助你有效地學習英文呢?

  • Because you will have vivid memories.

    因為你腦海中會浮現生動活潑的記憶。

  • Just like the first time you tried apples, and learned the word "apple".

    就像你第一次嚐到蘋果的滋味跟學到蘋果這個詞彙。

  • So, let's learn English together and have fun!

    一起快樂學英文吧!
