Hi there.
嗨
-
Good evening, it's very nice to be here...that sort of thing.
晚上好,很高興可以來到這...
-
I..I'm sorry.
痾,不好意思
-
Who are you?
您哪位?
-
I'm here to do the received pronunciation, the RP posh accent.
我來這講解「標準口音」,也就是時髦的英式口音
-
I believe you must be mistaken, I'm here to do the RP accent.
我想這裡有些誤會,我也是要來講解「標準口音」
-
Oh, certainly we can work together.
噢,那我們可以一起講解
-
I don't mind.
我是不介意啦
-
If...if it's okay with you.
如果你沒問題的話
-
Very well, if we must...
如果一定得這樣那就這樣吧
-
Okay!
好
-
Well, I suppose I'll represent the more modern RP,
我想,我就代表現代的 RP
-
basically people who wish to show a level of intelligence or class in their speech
也就是那些希望自己說話時聽起來是受過教育或從上流社會來的人
-
will generally speak as I do.
基本上和我的口音一樣
-
And I suppose you represent the more archaic, old-fashioned RP?
而至於你,我想您就代表比較老派的 RP 吧?
-
Old-fashioned!? I shall wash your mouth up with soap and water!
老派!?我真該用肥皂水好好清理你的嘴!
-
Yes...well...
痾...好....
-
Perhaps you should begin by telling them what RP is and is not.
或許你應該先告訴他們 RP 到底是什麼
-
Okay, well, RP goes by many different names:
好的,這個嘛,RP 其實有很多不同的名字:
-
Standard English
標準英語、
-
Oxford English
牛津英語、
-
The Queen's English
女王英語、
-
BBC English
BBC 英語
-
Well, it is true, in the past,
事實上,在過去
-
BBC news reporters were expected to speak in a similiar style to the Queen.
BBC 新聞播報員的確會和女王有相同的腔調
-
They'd speak very upper class.
皆說一口「上流社會」的英文
-
For example:
比方說:
-
Good evening!
晚上好!
-
We interrupt this program to bring you a special news bulletin.
我們要為您插撥一條特別新聞
-
The Germans have bombarded British shores from the air.
德國隊英國海岸投擲炸彈
-
Our American allies are here to lend a helping hand.
而我們的美方盟友已介入協助我們
-
Lovely.
聽起來真棒
-
Thank you.
謝謝
-
Whereas today's BBC represents a more realistic range of British accents.
而今天的 BBC 英文則廣泛的呈現各種英式腔調
-
Today, modern RP isn't exactly a very specific way of speaking.
現代所謂的 RP 其實並沒有一個特別明確的口音
-
Think of Tom Hiddleston,
想想湯姆・希德斯頓
-
Hugh Grant,
休・葛蘭
-
Keira Knightley,
綺拉・奈特莉
-
Emma Watson,
艾瑪・華森
-
Stephen Fry.
史蒂芬・佛萊
-
They're all on the spectrum of RP but the way they speak isn't exactly identical to one another.
他們說話的方式被稱作 RP 語調,但是他們的英文腔調卻不盡相同
-
The main idea of RP today is using good enunciation,
RP 其實就是清晰的發音、
-
a wide range of vocabulary,
廣泛的單字量、
-
and just generally using the correct grammar.
以及正確的文法
-
Unlike those bloody Kardashians who really leave a great deal to be desired in that department,
不像那些卡達夏的超低俗腔調
-
they may have rather splendid rear ends...
她們或許有豐臀...
-
- But
不過
-
Bottom of the barrel, I say.
沒魚蝦也好(指即使腔調低俗至少她們還有豐臀)
-
Yes, I mean...
沒錯,但我是說
-
I...I...I...I
我...我...我...我
-
I bet they sat at the rear of the class.
我打賭他們在學校時一定是後段班
-
In fact, I bet they were kept behind after school, ay?
事實上,他們肯定都被留校察看,是吧?
-
I should say.
一定是如此
-
Yes, indeed.
是吧是吧
-
Are you finished?
你講完了嗎?
-
Sorry, yes.
對,抱歉
-
Indeed! Let's begin with the sounds.
好的,讓我們先從一些發音開始
-
We'll show you the differences between the more modern RP and the older-fashioned upper RP.
我們會介紹現代 RP 和老派 RP 有哪些不同
-
Modern RP is more just about proper enunciation,
現代 RP 其實就是較正確的發音方式
-
good full articulation of consonants,
子音的發音位置要正確
-
good pronunciation of consonants,
也就是要發音清晰的子音
-
especially Ts, for example.
特別是 T 的發音
-
Try not use glottal T wherever possible.
盡量避免審略 t
-
For example,
像是
-
"water", not "wa'er";
要發 water 而不是 wa'er
-
"better", not be'er.
better,不適 be'er
-
However, when there's a T sound at the end of the word,
然而,當 t 在字尾時
-
sometimes we don't say it.
某些情況下我們不會發 t 的音
-
For example,
像是
-
absolutely,
absolutely、
-
definitely,
definitely、
-
United States.
United States
-
In regular RP, we use something called "R linking" or "R joining."
基本上,在 RP 中我們會使用到「R linking」或稱做「R joining」
-
In a sentence such as this:
像是這個句子:
-
"India and China"
「India and China」
-
India ends with an "A" sound, the next word begins with an "A" sound,
第一個字「India」以 [ə] 結尾而第二個字「and」是以 [æ] 開頭
-
so in regular RP we join them with an "R."
此時「標準口音」會用一個「r」的音連在中間
-
For example:
唸起來會像是:
-
"India (r) and China"
「India rand China」
-
Whereas in upper RP,
而在老派 RP 中
-
you wouldn't do that.
你不會這麼做
-
"India and China"
「India and China」
-
One important thing to note is RP is non-rhotic,
要注意一個重點,RP 語調是不發 r 的
-
which means we don't pronunce the "R" sound.
也就是遇到元音後的 r 不捲舌
-
For example, in this word,
比方說這個單字
-
Americans might pronounce it "hard", with an "R" sound.
美國人會將 「hard」的 r 發出來
-
But in RP we don't.
但 RP 語調不會
-
We pronounce it /ha:d/.
我們會發 /ha:d/
-
One important thing to remember is in these words that "A" is pronounced as an /a:/.
另一個要記住的是在以下這些單字中,A 要發 /a:/ 的音
-
Class, task, ask, grass.
Class、task、ask、grass
-
Whereas in these words, the "A" sound is pronounced like an /æ/.
但在這一組單字中的 A 則要發蝴蝶母音 /æ/
-
Man, can, hand, maths.
Man、can、hand、maths
-
The sounds in more common English accents come in more further back in the mouth,
比較常見的英文腔調的發音位置較靠近喉嚨
-
as Jason Statham pointed out in his video.
Jason Statham 在他的影片中有提過
-
Whereas in RP and upper RP, the sounds come from further forward in the mouth.
而 RP 語調和老派 RP 的發音位置則遠離喉嚨、靠進口部的前端
-
The rule is this:
規則是這樣的:
-
the higher level the RP, the posher the accent,
越高檔的 RP,語調也越高雅時髦
-
the further forward in the mouth is where the sound would come from.
而發音位置會越靠近口部前端
-
In upper RP, the jaw will move as little as possible.
而在老派 RP 的發音方式,你的下顎不太會移動
-
think Keira Knightley!
就像綺拉・奈特莉!
-
She speaks with a very good posh accent,
她的腔調十分時髦
-
but she looks like a ventriloquist dummy when she speaks because her mouth barely moves.
但當她說話時她看起來就像是有別人幫忙配音的木偶,因為她嘴巴幾乎沒在動
-
And that all lands to make a sound posher.
而這則是讓你音調聽起來很時髦的訣竅
-
So I think that's probably...
所以我想這大概...
-
Oh we have time for it, isn't it? You probably have to be somewhere?
噢我們還有時間繼續嗎?你是不是要去別的地方?
-
Yes, I gotta be going.
對,我得走了
-
Ehh, I'm a bit in a rush.
呃,我有點在趕時間
-
So...what time is now?
所以...現在幾點啦?
