Hey guys it's Shane from English Understood here.
-
When we use the present simple tense, we normally use it to talk about facts or to talk about habits or routines.
-
Do you get me? Do you get me?
-
Huh!? What does that mean? Do you get me?
-
Guys, 'Do you get me?' means 'Do you understand me?'
-
It's a very casual way to ask someone do they understand you.
-
And when a native speaker says it really fast, it sounds like this.
-
Djyuh get me? Djyuh get me?
-
We don't say 'do you'. We say 'djyuh'.
-
Djyuh get me? Djyuh get me?
-
Now you try. Djyuh get me?
-
So if I say, 'Do you think he got me?', what do you think that means?
-
That means 'Do you think he understood me?' in the past
-
because I changed 'get' to 'got'.
-
So this is a really really good phrase to use to ask someone do they understand you.
-
So try it with your friends and if they don't understand, you can teach them.
