Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of the series often says the word when asked for a release date. The word, 'soon' usually means coming within a small time-frame but it is the total opposite when said by Polyphony Digital and Kazunori Yamauchi.

Its rise to popular culture has been spearheaded by Southeast Asian movie "The Maid", where the main character's primary name is called "Ah Soon", who plays a retarded teenager.
